The most interesting story this pair of shoes has is it's trek up Mt. Sinai.

My sneaks and I woke up at midnight.  We were on the bus by 12:30 a.m. and at the foot of Mt. Sinai by 1:30.  Our camels, yes, camels were ready for us.  Our THREE HOUR ride up Mt. Sinai.  Now don't get me wrong, it was an experience we'll never forget, but three hours is a long time to be sitting on a hump-backed animal!  Fortunately for these sneaks their part of the trek was during the daylight, not in the pitch dark with tiny little lanterns.  Anyway it was a fairly relaxing ride except for when the camel got a little too close to the edge of the path and all you could see was straight down to the ground, hundreds of feet below.  Or when he got too close to the other side of the path and I thought he was going to crush my leg between him and the mountain.

Three hours and a sore butt later, we made it.  Or I thought we did.  We get to our meeting point with the rest of our group and get off the camels, but we still hadn't arrived at our destination.  Time for the sneaks to start working. It's too steep by this point for the camels to get up any further which is why we're now on foot.  At 5 a.m. we walk 100 steps to the top of the mountain.  When I say steps I mean uneven, rocky, steep steps.

So we finally make it to the top.  There is an ancient church or something sitting right on top of the mountain.  It's cold.  V. is wrapped up in like three blankets.  All of us younger people crawled out onto a ledge facing the east.  Remember it's still dark.

And slowly, slowly the sun starts creeping up over the mountains.  The first traces of dawn fill the sky and before we know it, the huge ball of fire is right in front of us.  It seems so close, and yet, because we're thousands of feet in the air by this point, we're freezing!  We sang together, praising God for such an experience that is sure not to happen again.  Daybreak has...broke.  It's time to make our decent.

Finally these sneaks are getting some action!  And lots of it.  We start by traipsing down those 100 steps we climbed on the way up.  Then it turns into the dusty, camel path.  For some reason it takes a lot less time to walk down the mountain on foot than it did to go up on camel back.  Hmm.  Sneaks and I have a good conversation with a wonderful friend.  We met A. on that trip and he is an amazing man.  He has a heart of gold, but would never admit to it.

We made it!  We are back to our starting place sans camels, of course.  My shoes still have Mt. Sinai dirt in them.  They're more tan than white now, but I'll probably have these sneaks for a long time because they have dirt in them from such an incredible place and experience!
